I recently had a shitty issue on my phone and the problems and pains I had to go through trying to solve this has been tremendous. It sucks because every single earpiece I use results in only sound coming out from the right output. Obviously it’s the internal headphone jack that got damaged (thanks Kraken speaker, seriously…), so after a few days of annoyingly listening to one-sided music, I figured this required fixing. Sending it to fix meant having to go phone-less/changing to spare phone which was a crazy effort in itself already, but I remembered my phone is still under warranty so I thought maybe Samsung could help me solve this money-free. But of course, typical of everything, they do not cover physical damages so wtf is the point of a shitty warranty. So it meant I had to send my phone to a repairshop, which conveniently enough the one at Simei charges at a $50. So I waited for my sister to free up her spare phone for me to use it temporarily, which is so effort I’m not even kidding, only to find out one day later that the cost of repair would be >$100. I gave up. Not gonna spend that money away, because I remembered hey, didn’t Streamcast Asia wanted to send me a bluetooth earpiece from Skullcandy? So I decided to painfully bear a few (LOT) more long and shitty one-sided music train journeys so that I could FINALLY get this free earpiece that would be the smartest way around this whole stupid issue. Yeap, said me, typing this very note due to not having any battery left in my bluetooth device that is supposed to be playing music into my head right now, leaving me ears bare in the train commutes ever, T-3 after being on VR. Decisions of my life really hitting hard on me right now.
Apart from bad life decisions, this brings light to certain things:
Bluetooth, seriously? 100% the worst invention of the current age. The whole trying to go wireless thing is so redundant when power is eventually needed and then it’s back to needing to charge again. Compared to when wired it can be powered forever. And don’t get me started about the whole pairing up process. I wonder what do people think about this, but I'm sure this is my biggest peeve of technology today. #mighthavetospendthe100bucksafterall
Train commutes - MOST EFFORT thing ever. It’s no wonder why Grab and Uber are making all the profits. No matter how convenient things it is for us, it comes with a cost - slugging it all out with all walks of life, shoulder to shoulder contact, for minutes on end. It is undermined to such a hugeeeee extent what technology help with dealing with this - zoning us out, creating a bubble between you and the outside world. It is only when you are stripped with all these added commodities, you realized how reliant you are with the technology world that you can’t live in a world without. Would life be hella different if you were forced to listen to migrant workers' chatter and annoying train noises for the entirety of your daily commutes? Yes, and seriously I’d take the technological advances any day. Anyone else who wants to debate, please enjoy (more like endure) a peak hour train ride alone without your smartphone, then talk to me again.
Ok back to topic on bad life decisions…
Not sure where all these is leading. The whole trying to have a good time VR-ing today really made me realize nothing good will eventually come out of it. We have hyped it up so much in our original states about this ‘other reality’ that can’t wait to go back into, so we lose grip on real life, and shiftily thinking of ways to enhance the altered state when we head back there, but then when we eventually get there, it’s really fucking amazing, and wow I love life, then snap, back to reality. Then it loops.
All I wanted is to chill out to visual eyecandies, but man the comedown. Retrospective as it may, I didn’t really want it to remind me of the current state of my life. It’s like after a full-on immersive experience with the audio-visionaries, you are pretty done with it but nope, you still gotta deal with these on the way down.
But hey, I guess it reminds me how we all deal with all our damages after all.
